Social Studies, Coding, Gym Week of Sept 20, 2021
Title 1 Extended Learning Program begins. 4TH grade will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays.
There is no Title 1 classes on FRIDAYS!
Paper menus will be given to students at the beginning of the week. Parents please make sure to check with the menus to see what will be given to students for lunch.
Parents are reminded to join their child's' google classroom to see their work, and progress in class.
5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES
Students will begin reviewing key geographical terms as well as features of a map as we prepare to read Chapter 1 from our textbook. Students will have their very first vocabulary quiz of the year on FRIDAY, SEPT 24!! This will be a very easy mix n match quiz to get students used to taking quizzes again on google classroom. Please make sure to study all terms. I remind all students that classwork notes will be posted on google classroom for students who aren't able to copy notes during class. All notes given should be written down in classwork notebooks.
I will be posting the textbook up on google classroom for easier accessibility.
DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY (CODING)
Since the beginning of the school year, students have been familiarizing themselves with the basics of a computer, preparing for Coding. We began the year by doing keyboard exercises to understand hand placement on a keyboard. We have also been working on Code.org to review basic Coding languages and styles.
Starting this week, students will begin working with our new Coding program, CodeSpeak. CodeSpeak brings direct instructional learning to the classroom for students learning how to computer program. I will be working with an instructional coach to provide a basic classroom structure and provide students with the knowledge to learn different computer programming languages such as, HTML, JAVASCRIPT, and eventually PYTHON.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
As a reminder, gym classes are given only ONCE A WEEK. It is imperative that students make sure they come prepared for class on Friday. That means, FULL UNIFORM!!! If you are not in full uniform you will not participate in Gym class and receive a ZERO for the day. I also remind students that their grade requires them to participate in class, whether or not he or she feels like participating. In the event, that you feel sick or have an injury, you will be asked to sit down and will be excused from class. DO NOT MAKE THIS A HABIT!!!
