5TH Grade Social Studies, Coding, & Physical Education Week of March 28, 2022

WEEKLY REMINDERS Students will be taking the NYS ELA Test on Tuesday March 29, and Thursday March 31. Students will not be allowed to move from the class room for the allotted time, please remember to bring a thick sized book with you to read when you are finished. Parent Teacher conferences will be held on Friday, April 1 from 1 pm to 6 pm Conferences will be held in two separate options to accommodate everyone. Parents wishing to speak in person will be welcome to come to the school from 1 pm to 2:30 pm. Zoom meetings will be held from 3 pm to 6 pm. If you want to speak at a certain time during in person hours and can't come in please indicate that you want a zoom meeting in the sign up sheet. Parents are asked to sign up for conferences on the sign up sheet below. Please indicate in the comments if you are in person or zoom. 5TH Grade Social Studies, Coding, & Physical Education Week of March 21, 2022

WEEKLY REMINDERS Tuesday March 22, and Thursday March 24, students in grades 3-8th will take the PRACTICE exam of the NYS ELA exam. Students please remember to bring a thick book to class, so that you m ay read after you are done. Students will not be allowed to do anything else during the 90 minute window of the exam. Stations of the Cross on Friday March 25 at 2:15 pm 5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES This week in class we will be covering Lessons 2-4 of Chapter 4. Students are reminded to study for their Vocabulary Quizzes, which will be given this week. Vocabulary Quizzes are on lessons 2 & 3 this week. Several homework assignments will be given this week. Please look towards Google Classroom for more information. DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY (CODING) Students will soon be using everything they have been learning in Coding class in order to program a robot in Robotics. WEEKLY REMINDERS Thursday, March 17 is St. Patrick's Day. Students may wear green for the day. Progress Reports will be sent home on Friday. 5TH Grade Social Studies Students will begin reviewing Chapter 4 from their textbooks. We will go over the Chapter 3 exam as an introduction to the next chapter, which talks about the building of the First Colonies in the United States. We will go over Lessons 1-3 this week, so please be aware of any homework or classwork given through Google Classroom. Chapter 4 Vocabulary due Wednesday, March 16. Make sure to write it down in your vocabulary notebook 3X each! Additional homework will be given throughout the week. DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY (CODING) This week in coding students in grades 3rd-5th will be working on  Catch a Ghost: Similar to Hide and Seek, but this project uses a "repeat until" block to make high scores possible. It repeats the game until you lose, then asks for your name if you made a high score. Students in Grades 6th-8th

WEEKLY REMINDERS Friday, March 11 SCHOOL IS CLOSED! This week is National Barbie Day and National Mario Day. Students may come in dressed as the theme.  5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES Students will be presenting their Black History Month projects this week. We will spend Monday-Tuesday presenting in class. Wednesday, March 9 students will be given their Chapter 3 Exam. Students are reminded to study vocabulary and any worksheet we have worked on in class. DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY(CODING) This week in Coding, students in 3rd-5th will be on scratch working on an Original Project (Animated Comic): Students created a comic story where the characters use different costumes to appear animated. At least one of the characters used was created by the student. Students in 6th- 8th will be on Bitsbox working on an o riginal Project and learn how to give disability access: Students learned how to create apps that are accessible to those with disabilities.
