5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES
Last Friday, students were given a vocabulary quiz to gauge where they stand in their vocabulary comprehension skills. The quiz was given as a way to help prepare ourselves for the upcoming tests and quizzes this year, it will not be counted as a quiz grade, but as a classwork grade. We will review the quiz on Monday and determine what we need to do to improve our vocabulary comprehension.
Starting this week, we will begin to cover Unit 1 in our textbook. Unit 1 covers the People, Places, and Time of early civilizations in the United States. Students will be given a number of assignments this week to prepare for our discussions in class. It is imperative that students take their time reading the assigned lessons as we focus on having the students reiterate what they have learned from the reading. Reading assessment questions will also be assigned to them this week to follow up on the lessons.
All homework will be posted on GOOGLE CLASSROOM! If there is any questions about homework, please feel free to contact me via email or on google classroom.
Digital Tech (Coding)
Last week, students began working with a new Coding program we have introduced into the curriculum. Code Speak teaches computer programming skills in the classroom in a very inviting, and stimulating way for students to enjoy. With this new program, students will begin to learn the basics of computer programming and eventually form different projects in digital animation, as well as coding languages such as JAVA SCRIPT.
This week, students in grades 3-5 will be introduced to Scratch, where they will create animations and learn how to in put commands and code segments to bring the animation to life.
Students in grades 6-8 will be working on a program called "BitsBox" where students will learn how to properly write commands using JAVA SCRIPT to code.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION (GYM)
Students are reminded to have FULL GYM UNIFORM on FRIDAYS!!! Participation for gym class requires full attire. There are no excuses for gym class. If you do not participate at any point in class, you get a ZERO. If you do not do your exercises, you get a ZERO. Classes are only once a week, so it is very easy to pass or fail. Please do your best to be aware of that.
As always, if there is any other questions, please feel free to email me @MrBonilla@olqmnyc.org
STAY SAFE & HAVE A BLESSED WEEK!
