Social Studies, Coding, & Gym Week of October 4, 2021


WEEKLY REMINDERS

  • Monday, October 4th, Mass of St. Francis of Assisi. School animals will be blessed during mass. Animals cannot be brought from home due to Covid restrictions.
  • Tuesday, October 5, students in grades K- 8th will be taking the NWEA Map testing for Mathematics.
  • Wednesday, October 6, students in grades 3- 8th will be taking the NWEA Map testing for Science.
  • Title 1 Extended Day Learning Program for 4th Grade is on Tuesdays and Thursdays!

5th Grade Social Studies
  • Students will continue to work on Chapter 1 from our textbook, which focuses on how early people in North America adapted to their geography.
  • This weeks' lesson objective will include the following:
  • Students learning how to use latitude and longitude to determine locations
  • Identifying and describing the land form regions of the United States.
  • Locating the land forms of North America on a Map.
Students will receive 3 assignments this week that correspond with the lesson. All assignments and classwork will be posted on Google Classroom. Please make sure to follow directions and Don't fall behind!

Coding (CodeSpeak)

  • 3rd-5th grade:
    • Students were introduced to Scratch by adding sprites and backgrounds, and short code segments to do animations
    • Students learn how characters can interact with each other by using sensing blocks and forever loops; they make a basic game where a Hungry Cat catches Apples.
  • 6th-8th grade:
    • Students learned an introduction to simplified JavaScript, one of the most popular programming languages of the web.
    • Students use coordinates to place cookies around the screen and then added a function to allow the user to virtually eat them.
Physical Education (Gym)

    Students will continue to work on developing plyometric skills by doing a light routine of Jumping Jacks, Squats, and Burpees. Workout routine will then be followed up with a class activity such as Kickball, volleyball, Shark Attack, and etc. Please remember to have gym uniform on Fridays!
