5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES

  • Students will continue to read Chapter 2 from their textbooks. Chapter 2 focuses on early civilizations of North America, specifically Native Americans in The United States. Students will be working on lessons 2-4 this week.
  • As previously stated during report card meetings, vocabulary quizzes will be broken down into lessons. Therefore, there will be two vocabulary quizzes given this week for Lessons 2-3. Please remember to study your words and practice the spelling.
  • As a reminder, students are given assignments during each lesson to write down notes in their notebooks! It is imperative that students get used to writing down notes as they read to prepare for lesson discussions.
  • Chapter 2 and assignments will be posted on Google Classroom by Monday.

Digital Technology (Coding)

  • This will be the updated curriculum until the end of December for coding.

  • 3rd-5th grade:
  • Students learn how to prompt transition effects when specific conditions are met. In this project, their scenes transition from the past, present, and future.
  • Students program a clicker game with virtual instruments that play different notes and beats when clicked.
  • Students built a game where the player dodges a "bad" sprite while they chase a goal. The player's score or health, through a variable, changes based on what they manage to collect.

  • 6th-8th grade:
  • Students create an original project and reflect on the potential unintended consequences of apps.
  • Students are taught how functions are defined and used in Javascript through tap and drag functions.
  • Students use an array, a special variable which can hold more than one value at a time, to make a royalty themed app.
  • Students programmed an app that randomly generates an image on the screen; tapping the image makes them pop.
  • Students will program an app that will have stamp interaction with each other and implement lists/arrays to the moving enemies.

Physical Education (Gym)

  • Friday, December 3 is early dismissal for all students. We will have a half day schedule. We will still be having classes, please make sure to wear your gym uniforms!

As always, if there is further questions, please look towards the plan book for more information.

THANK YOU & HAVE A BLESSED WEEK!
