5TH Grade Social Studies, Coding, and Physical Education Week of March 14, 2022


WEEKLY REMINDERS

  • Thursday, March 17 is St. Patrick's Day. Students may wear green for the day.
  • Progress Reports will be sent home on Friday.

5TH Grade Social Studies
  • Students will begin reviewing Chapter 4 from their textbooks. We will go over the Chapter 3 exam as an introduction to the next chapter, which talks about the building of the First Colonies in the United States.
  • We will go over Lessons 1-3 this week, so please be aware of any homework or classwork given through Google Classroom.
  • Chapter 4 Vocabulary due Wednesday, March 16. Make sure to write it down in your vocabulary notebook 3X each!
  • Additional homework will be given throughout the week.


DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY (CODING)
  • This week in coding students in grades 3rd-5th will be working on Catch a Ghost: Similar to Hide and Seek, but this project uses a "repeat until" block to make high scores possible. It repeats the game until you lose, then asks for your name if you made a high score.
  • Students in Grades 6th-8th will be working on Musical Submarine: Students programmed a musical submarine and a virtual piano using Javascript sound and sing functions that execute when stamps are clicked.
  • Students will also  continue to strengthen their coding skills on Code.org

PHYSICAL EDUCATION (GYM)
  • It will be a regular scheduled day on Friday. There is no change to the Gym schedule this week. Students are reminded to wear full gym attire on Friday.

3rd Grade Homeroom, 5th grade Social Studies, Coding & Physical Education Week of April 24, 2023

  WEEKLY REMINDERS START OF THE 4TH QUARTER. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO KEEP UP WITH ALL YOUR WORK AND FINISH THE YEAR STRONG! WEDNESDAY APRIL 26 is SECRETARY'S DAY. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO THANK OUR SECRETARY ALBA FOR ALL HER HARD WORK! ALL CLASSES ARE ON A REGULAR SCHEDULE THIS WEEK. 5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES Students will begin wrapping up Unit 2 from our textbooks. We will review the idea of different cultures meeting and how cultural differences and competition for land led to conflicts among different groups of people in the Americas. Students will spend Monday and Tuesday reviewing the last two chapters, which will prepare us for the Unit 2 exam on Wednesday. We will then begin to examine Chapter 5: The 13 colonies. We have started to discuss how the first 13 colonies were made and who established these colonies. Two homework assignements will be given this week. WEEKLY REMINDERS SCHOOL RESUMES MONDAY, APRIL 25TH 2022 Students in grades 3-8th will be taking the NYS MATH Exam on Tuesday and Thursday. Wednesday April 27th is Secretary's Day. Make sure to thank Alba for all her hard work in the office! 5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES We will be reviewing and wrapping up Chapter 4. We will spend Monday reviewing the take home chapter test given to everyone before the break. Wednesday April 27, we will begin to review Unit 2 from our textbook. Unit 2 consists of material from Chapters 3 and 4. The unit test will be given next week. After the Unit test we will begin the following Unit, which focuses on the 13 colonies. The flag below represents the original flag before the 50 states. No Homework will be given this week due to state testing. DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY (CODING) There will be no coding classes with Mr. Kevin this week due to state testing. Coding classes will resume next week.
