5TH Grade Social Studies, Coding, & Physical Education Week of March 21, 2022



WEEKLY REMINDERS
  • Tuesday March 22, and Thursday March 24, students in grades 3-8th will take the PRACTICE exam of the NYS ELA exam. Students please remember to bring a thick book to class, so that you may read after you are done. Students will not be allowed to do anything else during the 90 minute window of the exam.
  • Stations of the Cross on Friday March 25 at 2:15 pm

5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES
  • This week in class we will be covering Lessons 2-4 of Chapter 4.
  • Students are reminded to study for their Vocabulary Quizzes, which will be given this week.
  • Vocabulary Quizzes are on lessons 2 & 3 this week.
  • Several homework assignments will be given this week. Please look towards Google Classroom for more information.

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY (CODING)
  • Students will soon be using everything they have been learning in Coding class in order to program a robot in Robotics.
  • Students will be using Javascript language to program the robot named Sphero. Although we have received the robots, we are currently waiting for new Ipads to use the program.
  • This week in CodeSpeak, students in 3rd-5th will be using Scratch to Catch a Ghost: Similar to Hide and Seek, but this project uses a "repeat until" block to make high scores possible. It repeats the game until you lose, then asks for your name if you made a high score.
  • Students in grades 6th- 8th will be using Bits Box to create Starfish Disco: Students programmed an app where they spawn characters by tapping a virtual tablet screen, and change the character's size based on location to create an illusion of depth.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION (GYM)
  • Gym classes are on schedule this week. Students are reminded to wear full gym uniform on Friday.
  • As a reminder to many students who think Gym grades are not important, Report cards will be given in two weeks. Behavior and participation are big part of your grades. Please be aware of how you are behaving and focus on doing your best during activities.

3rd Grade Homeroom, 5th grade Social Studies, Coding & Physical Education Week of April 24, 2023

  WEEKLY REMINDERS START OF THE 4TH QUARTER. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO KEEP UP WITH ALL YOUR WORK AND FINISH THE YEAR STRONG! WEDNESDAY APRIL 26 is SECRETARY'S DAY. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO THANK OUR SECRETARY ALBA FOR ALL HER HARD WORK! ALL CLASSES ARE ON A REGULAR SCHEDULE THIS WEEK. 5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES Students will begin wrapping up Unit 2 from our textbooks. We will review the idea of different cultures meeting and how cultural differences and competition for land led to conflicts among different groups of people in the Americas. Students will spend Monday and Tuesday reviewing the last two chapters, which will prepare us for the Unit 2 exam on Wednesday. We will then begin to examine Chapter 5: The 13 colonies. We have started to discuss how the first 13 colonies were made and who established these colonies. Two homework assignements will be given this week. Gym & 5th Grade Social Studies

Hello Everyone! I hope all is well while we continue to battle the Covid-19 pandemic. As we continue to live life, lots of changes we will have to work through. As you have heard from our principal, students will continue to have classes remotely on Google Classroom. We understand that there will have to be some adjustments made in order for students to receive their work as well as feedback from teachers. Please bare with us as we continue to provide an education for your child as best as we can. Blogs will be updated daily with materials, as well as homework for students to check on Google Classroom. For the time being, remote classes shall generally follow typical school schedules. 5th Grade Social Studies class will be held Monday-Friday at 11:15 am to 12:00pm. Students should log in to Google Classroom at the start of class everyday.
