5TH Grade Social Studies, Coding, & Physical Education (Gym) Week of April 4, 2022



WEEKLY REMINDER

  • This is the last week before Spring Break! Classes end this Friday April 8. Students return to school April 25.
  • Tuesday, April 5th, students in grade 7 will be hosting Mass at 9 AM for the Feast of St. Vincent Ferrer. Honors Assembly will follow.
  • School tours for parents in my 4th class will be held on Thursday April 7th from 9am-10am
  • Classrooms will be packed up on Friday. Students please make sure to bring in Shopping bags for your books.

5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES
  • Students will begin to wrap up Chapter 4 from our textbooks this week.
  • Vocabulary quiz for lesson 4 will be given on Wednesday and Chapter Test will be given as a take home assignment on Wednesday.
  • There will be one homework assignment assigned on Google Classroom this week. I will also be giving everyone a preview of what we will be doing when we return from Spring Break, for those who want to get ahead of the class.

Digital Technology (Coding)
  • This week in Coding, I will be showing students the basic concepts and skills in robotics using the Sphero EDU app.
  • Students will be learning the basics of computer programming and code sequencing.
  • Students will also be working with Mr. Kevin on their latest coding projects. 
  • Students in grades 3rd-5th will be working on Catch a Ghost: Similar to Hide and Seek, but this project uses a "repeat until" block to make high scores possible. It repeats the game until you lose, then asks for your name if you made a high score.
  • Students in grades 6th-8th will be working on Starfish Disco: Students programmed an app where they spawn characters by tapping a virtual tablet screen, and change the character's size based on location to create an illusion of depth.

Physical Education (Gym)
  • Students will have a regular scheduled gym day on Friday. Please make sure to wear your gym uniforms.

3rd Grade Homeroom, 5th grade Social Studies, Coding & Physical Education Week of April 24, 2023

  WEEKLY REMINDERS START OF THE 4TH QUARTER. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO KEEP UP WITH ALL YOUR WORK AND FINISH THE YEAR STRONG! WEDNESDAY APRIL 26 is SECRETARY'S DAY. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO THANK OUR SECRETARY ALBA FOR ALL HER HARD WORK! ALL CLASSES ARE ON A REGULAR SCHEDULE THIS WEEK. 5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES Students will begin wrapping up Unit 2 from our textbooks. We will review the idea of different cultures meeting and how cultural differences and competition for land led to conflicts among different groups of people in the Americas. Students will spend Monday and Tuesday reviewing the last two chapters, which will prepare us for the Unit 2 exam on Wednesday. We will then begin to examine Chapter 5: The 13 colonies. We have started to discuss how the first 13 colonies were made and who established these colonies. Two homework assignements will be given this week. 5TH Grade Social Studies, Coding, & Physical Education Week of April 25, 2022

WEEKLY REMINDERS SCHOOL RESUMES MONDAY, APRIL 25TH 2022 Students in grades 3-8th will be taking the NYS MATH Exam on Tuesday and Thursday. Wednesday April 27th is Secretary's Day. Make sure to thank Alba for all her hard work in the office! 5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES We will be reviewing and wrapping up Chapter 4. We will spend Monday reviewing the take home chapter test given to everyone before the break. Wednesday April 27, we will begin to review Unit 2 from our textbook. Unit 2 consists of material from Chapters 3 and 4. The unit test will be given next week. After the Unit test we will begin the following Unit, which focuses on the 13 colonies. The flag below represents the original flag before the 50 states. No Homework will be given this week due to state testing. DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY (CODING) There will be no coding classes with Mr. Kevin this week due to state testing. Coding classes will resume next week.
