3rd Grade Homeroom, 5th Grade Social Studies, Coding & Physical Education Week of October 3, 2022





WEEKLY REMINDERS:

  • Congratulations! You've made it through the first month of school. 9 more to go!!
  • We welcome Superintendent Micheal Deegan and NYC DOE Chancellor David Banks to our building on Tuesday October 4th.
  • Picture Day is on Wednesday October 5th. Students are welcomed to wear dress up clothes or school uniform. NO JEANS, T-SHIRTS, ETC.  Envelopes should be given to homeroom teacher by Monday October 3rd.
  • CHANGE IN CALENDAR, OCTOBER 7th students will dismiss at regular time. NO EARLY DISMISSAL. 
  • TITLE 1 CLASSES FOR GRADE 3 IS ON WEDNESDAYS AND THURSDAYS FROM 3:15 - 5:00 PM.
  • Progress Reports will be given out NEXT FRIDAY OCTOBER 14th.

5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES
  • Students will continue to read Chapter 1 from our textbooks. Continuing on lessons 2-4 this week.
  • Students will continue to work on answering essential questions from the chapter and analyzing main ideas We will work on multiple standards this week strengthening our critical thinking skills and vocabulary comprehension.
  • Vocabulary Quiz and Chapter Test will be given next week.  Please make sure we have our notes in order!
  • Homework will be given on Monday October 3rd.
  • HISPANIC HERITAGE PROJECTS HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED TO STUDENTS. Students will receive time this week to work on projects during class. Projects will be due October 12. 

Computer Science (Coding & Robotics)
  • Students will continue working on Algorithms and Programming. We will be moving from our first unit to our second unit this week.
  • This week in class, students will learn how to make and use Sprites within a coded program.
  • Students will also continue to familiarize themselves with our Sphero Robots.
  • Students were introduced to the robots last week and have begun to learn how to control the robot.
  • This week in class we will try our first lesson with the robots by creating art with our robots.
  • Thursday's CodeSpeak class will continue with Mr. T as the head teacher. Mr.Kevin is no longer at our school but will continue to stay in touch with student progress through Mr. T.
  • Students will continue to work on projects within class using HTML, SCRATCH, and Javascript platforms.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION (GYM)
  • Congratulations to everyone that has been actively participating in gym class. It has been a very tough month.
  • Students in grades K-4 have completed over 240 Jumping Jacks, Squats, and Burpees throughout the first month of class.
  • Students in grades 5-8th have completed over 400 Jumping Jacks, Squats, and Burpees.
  • We will continue working towards new goals and achieving a level of fitness that makes all our bodies strong!
  • This month I will be introducing a new workout routine for class aimed for cardio power and resistance.
  • Students are reminded to wear FULL GYM UNIFORM ON FRIDAY!
