3rd Grade Homeroom, 5th Grade Social Studies, Coding, & Physical Education Week of March 6, 2023

 


WEEKLY REMINDERS

  • Thursday March 9th is Barbie Day. Students may dress up as their favorite Barbie/Ken character. If you do not want to dress up as either or, students may dress up as a hippie.
  • Friday March 10th is Stations of the Cross. Parents are welcomed to join us in Church at 11am.
  • Progress Reports will be given out March 16th.


5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES
  • Students will review their Chapter 3 exam and work on fixing critical thinking questions.
  • On Tuesday, students will begin reviewing Chapter 4: Building The First Colonies.
  • Students will have four lessons to review before the chapter exam. These four lessons will consist of 24 vocabulary words, which students will have to copy and write in their notebooks for homework.
  • This week we will be covering lessons 1 & 2. Main ideas for the lessons are Why did Spain set up colonies in North America? & Why did English settlers come to North America, and where did they settle first?
  • Students will learn about the relations between Spanish/English settlers and Native Americans.
  • Two homework assignments will be given this week. Please look towards google classroom for more information.


Computer Science (Coding)
  • Students will begin working on an Open ended Coding Project. Students will be asked to create a coded program for characters inspired by the movie "The Bad Guys". 
  • Students will bring these characters to life by attaching behaviors and events to make them interactive. 
  • Students will continue working with Mr. T on Code Speak on Thursday. Mr. T will continue reviewing projects with students.
  • Typing.com assignments will be given this week to students in Grades 2 - 4th.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION (GYM)
  • Gym classes are on schedule this week.
  • Students are reminded to wear proper gym uniform on Friday!

  WEEKLY REMINDERS START OF THE 4TH QUARTER. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO KEEP UP WITH ALL YOUR WORK AND FINISH THE YEAR STRONG! WEDNESDAY APRIL 26 is SECRETARY'S DAY. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO THANK OUR SECRETARY ALBA FOR ALL HER HARD WORK! ALL CLASSES ARE ON A REGULAR SCHEDULE THIS WEEK. 5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES Students will begin wrapping up Unit 2 from our textbooks. We will review the idea of different cultures meeting and how cultural differences and competition for land led to conflicts among different groups of people in the Americas. Students will spend Monday and Tuesday reviewing the last two chapters, which will prepare us for the Unit 2 exam on Wednesday. We will then begin to examine Chapter 5: The 13 colonies. We have started to discuss how the first 13 colonies were made and who established these colonies. Two homework assignements will be given this week. 5TH Grade Social Studies, Coding, & Physical Education Week of April 25, 2022

WEEKLY REMINDERS SCHOOL RESUMES MONDAY, APRIL 25TH 2022 Students in grades 3-8th will be taking the NYS MATH Exam on Tuesday and Thursday. Wednesday April 27th is Secretary's Day. Make sure to thank Alba for all her hard work in the office! 5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES We will be reviewing and wrapping up Chapter 4. We will spend Monday reviewing the take home chapter test given to everyone before the break. Wednesday April 27, we will begin to review Unit 2 from our textbook. Unit 2 consists of material from Chapters 3 and 4. The unit test will be given next week. After the Unit test we will begin the following Unit, which focuses on the 13 colonies. The flag below represents the original flag before the 50 states. No Homework will be given this week due to state testing. DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY (CODING) There will be no coding classes with Mr. Kevin this week due to state testing. Coding classes will resume next week.
