WEEKLY REMINDERS NWEA MAP Testing will continue this week. Students will be taking the Reading exam on Tuesday, and the Science exam on Thursday. Title 1 classes for 3rd grade are on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Gym Classes are back to normal schedule this week. 5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES Students will continue reading Chapter 1. Students will begin to analyze what makes states and regions unique. Students will be working on Hispanic Heritage Month projects. Homework assignments will be given on Monday. Please look towards Google Classroom for more information. 3RD- 8TH GRADE COMPUTER SCIENCE Students will continue working on sequencing algorithms using Code.org. Students will also begin using the Sphero Robots this week. Students will learn how to create their own Draw programs, including movement (direction and speed) and lights. WEEKLY REMINDERS Parents please make sure to hand in all forms which were given to everyone last week. Title 1 extended day classes will begin this week. Students that have signed up will go straight to class on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Classes run from 3:15 to 5:00 pm. NWEA Map testing will begin this week. Grades 3 - 8 will take Language Arts on Tuesday and Science on Thursday. Both tests run from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. 5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES Students will begin discussing chapter 1 from our textbooks this week. Students will be discussing the importance of geography and how it affected where and how people lived. Students are reminded that although homework will only be given on Mondays, they should stay proactive with the lessons as we will be working on much of it in class. Students will also be discussing Hispanic Heritage this week, as well as building a foundation for our projects. Students will use different resources relating to U.S. History to improve critical thinking skills, vocabulary comprehension, and other skills through Inquiry-Based Learning. Social studies homework will be given on Mondays only. All homework will be due Tuesdays. Students will begin to learn how to set-up their notebooks and homework for the year. WEEKLY REMINDERS June 21 is Awards Day at 1pm June 22 is Kindergarten Moving up Ceremony June 23 is the 8th Grade Ring Ceremony at 11AM June 24 is the LAST DAY OF SCHOOl. End of Year Mass at 10 AM Dismissal for all students at 12 NOON. 5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES Students will be recapping what they have learned throughout the year. We will watch a few videos/documentaries of what happens after the 13 colonies were formed during the last few days of class. Digital Technology(Coding) I'm glad to say Coding class this year was a great improvement. Students were able to pick up on early computer programming skills fairly easily. We will continue to work with Sphero robots this week as well as next year! Physical Education(Gym) There will be no Gym classes this week due to the celebrations going on in the lunchroom this week. WEEKLY REMINDERS Grades 4TH & 8TH will be taking NYS Science Test this week. The Written Test will be held on Monday and the Performance Test will be held on Wednesday. Last Day of School for All Students will be on June 24th. 12 Noon Dismissal. 5TH Grade Social Studies Students will begin to wrap up the semester by finishing up Chapter 6. Chapter 6 will be done in class with several quizzes and a take home test to finish. Since we did not get a chance to start The American Revolution, we will watch several short pieces of episodes from a popular show on the History Channel called "Vikings". I hope to use these short pieces to depict the struggles of families in Europe and why they chose to explore the seas. WEEKLY REMINDERS NWEA MAP TESTING make-up will be held Monday and Tuesday. If you missed any Map Testing during last week, you will be able to make it up this week. School is CLOSED on Thursday May 26, Friday May 27, and Monday May 30. Wednesday May 25 is a dress up day for students. We will be celebrating the sacrament of Confirmation in Church 11AM. 5TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES Students will continue to review Chapter 5 in our textbook. We will be finishing Chapter 5 this week, so please be aware of the work that will be given this week. There will be a number of assignments given this week.
